Cascade forges 1-1 tie with Snohomish

EVERETT – These combatants begrudgingly agreed to agree, at least until the next time their paths cross.

Snohomish and Cascade battled through 80 minutes of regulation and two scoreless five-minute overtime periods before finally settling for a 1-1 tie in a Western Conference North Division girls soccer game at Everett Memorial Stadium Thursday night.

“It was a pretty typical Snohomish-versus-Cascade soccer game,” Cascade coach Jamie Gay said. “They’d throw a good attack against us, get some near misses and we’d withstand. Then, we’d attack, get some near misses and they’d withstand. It was a fair result.”

Snohomish struck eight minutes into the second half when Ashley Tombelaine got the ball on the left wing and drove a cross into the Cascade box.

“Lacee (Ross) collected the ball behind the defense, maybe eight yards out and just tucked it in,” Gay said.

The Bruins got the equalizer in the 74th minute when Liz Gross converted after a free kick from 30 yards out by teammate Andrea Cordova.

“Andrea played it into the box and the ball went to the back post where Liz was making a run,” Gay said.

Cascade lost three times to Snohomish last year so there was a measure of satisfaction with the tie.

“It was not a great result, we didn’t gain any points in the standings, but we held our ground,” Gay said. “I think it was a typical battle of soccer action in the Wesco North. There will be a lot of games like this for everyone throughout the season.”
