Doubles teams boost Stanwood

STANWOOD – Stanwood swept the doubles after splitting the singles matches to defeat Arlington 5-2 Friday in a Wesco North boys tennis meet.

Stanwood’s No. 2 doubles team of Josh Tafoya and Taylor Carl won two tiebreakers in a three-set marathon to help produce the sweep.

Marysville-PIlchuck 5, Monroe 0: Michal Niewiadomski won his No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1 to lead Marysville-Pilchuck to its first Wesco North victory of the season.

Lake Stevens 5, Mount Vernon 0: Craig Miller led Lake Stevens to its second straight Wesco North victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. The meet was shortened to five matches by rain.

Snohomish 6, Oak Harbor 0: Kyle Scott came back from a first-set loss to win at No. 4 singles, the only match that went beyond two sets in the Wesco North contest.

Volleyball

Shoreline Christian 3, Evergreen Lutheran 2: At Seattle, Shoreline Christian fell behind two games to none and was able to come back and win, 15-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-9. Shoreline improved to 2-0 overall.

Girls swimming

Mercer Island 130, Snohomish 56: Kelsey Randolf was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle race and placed second in the 100 butterfly with a state meet qualifying time of 1:00.42 to lead Snohomish in the non-conference season opening meet.
