Husky basketball season about to start

The UW men’s basketball team is just a few minutes away from starting its season with a game against New Jersey Tech (don’t worry, the Huskies hadn’t heard of NJIT either before the schedule came out). This game is the second game of the day here in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Utah beat High Point earlier today, so if the Huskies can beat the Highlanders, which they should be able to without too much trouble, they’ll play Utah on ESPN 2 tomorrow night at 7:45 for a trip to the New York and a couple of games at Madison Square Garden.

I’ve been pretty tied up with football duties today, so my colleague Rich Myhre has been kind enough to fill in covering this game for tomorrow’s Herald. I’m mentioning this because should this game turn into a blowout, there’s a good chance I may cut this blog short and call it a night. But as long as this game stays interesting, I’ll keep you updated.

One other quick note, freshman forward Darnell Gant has decided to redshirt this season, meaning the Huskies will have 11 players until Ryan Appleby gets back from his fractured thumb.
