Muntz homer lifts Hops past AquaSox in series opener

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Shane Muntz hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Hillsboro Hops held on for a 4-3 win over the Everett AquaSox on Monday night to open a six-game series at Ron Tonkin Field.

Tyler Locklear went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Blake Rambusch went 2-for-3 for Everett, which outhit Hillsboro 7-3 in the game. Top Seattle Mariners prospect Harry Ford went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored for the AquaSox.

Reid VanScoter allowed two unearned runs on two hits and struck out six in his first start of the season for the AquaSox. Tyler Driver (0-1) allowed two earned runs in an inning pitched and took the loss. Sam Carlson, Tim Elliott and Kyle Hill combined to allow zero hits over the final three innings for Everett (1-2)

Kevin Graham and Wilderd Patino each had an RBI for Hillsboro (3-1).
