Oak Harbor remains unbeaten, tied for 1st

STANWOOD — After already posting their best record in years, the Oak Harbor Wildcats volleyball team is now making its case as the best team in the Wesco North.

Oak Harbor won its ninth game of the season Tuesday by defeating Stanwood 26-24, 25-20, 25-18 in a Wesco North match at Stanwood High School.

A year after winning seven games and just three league games, the Wildcats remained undefeated in league play at 4-0 and moved their record to 8-1 overall.

Oak Harbor stayed in a tie with Monroe for the top spot in the Wesco North.

The two teams play on October 23.

“They’re solid with what they do,” Stanwood head coach Erik Titus said noting that he isn’t surprised at the success the Wildcats are having this season.

“They’ve had some kids we’ve seen coming for sometime now,” Titus said.

Jen Jansen’s 18 kills led the Wildcats and Becca Wheeler added 35 assists for Oak Harbor.

“They didn’t make a lot of hitting errors. They led us into game one and game two but we didn’t snatch up and take it. They made some good plays,” Titus said.

Stanwood (3-3, 4-7) was led by Leah Titus’ 15 digs and Tarin Nicholas’ eight kills. The Spartans currently sit in the fourth and final 4A district playoff spot.

Monroe 3, Cascade 0: Kaitlyn Drew led Monroe (5-0 in league, 9-2 overall) with 31 assists and five aces to keep the Bearcats undefeated in the Wesco North. Kylin Munoz and Kelsey Brennan combined for 24 kills in Monroe’s 25-6, 25-17, 25-10 win over Cascade (1-5, 1-10).

Snohomish 3, Everett 0: At Everett, Natalie Kaltbrenner had 38 digs, Larissa Dirks had 11 kills, Shannon Nichols has 23 assists and Joanna Balin had nine kills and five blocks to lead Snohomish (2-3 league, 5-5 overall) to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-16 Wesco North win over Everett (2-4, 5-6). Ally Lund had 20 digs, Lauren Altman had 15 digs and freshman Emily Liger had six service aces and four blocks for the Seagulls.

Lake Stevens 3, Arlington 0: At Lake Stevens, it only took the Vikings three games to defeat Arlington 25-13, 25-22, 25-18 in a Wesco North match. Janae Harpham had 12 kills for the Vikings and Kaitlyn Jones addes 29 assists. Kelsey Caban had 30 assists for the Eagles and Brianna Covey had six blocks. Lake Stevens improved to 2-3 league, 3-7 overall. Arlington fell to 0-5, 0-11.

Shorecrest 3, Mariner 0: At Shoreline, Shorecrest, led by Anna Herold’s 28 assists and five kills, swept Mariner 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 to win the Wesco South match. Jamie McDonald recorded 15 kills and three blocks for Shorecrest (4-2 in league, 9-2 overall). Shannon Peterson had 10 assists and five digs for Mariner (2-3, 4-5).

Jackson 3, Mountlake Terrace 2: Cerise Knakal led Jackson to a 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 15-25, 15-9 Wesco South win with 42 assists as it narrowly defeated Mountlake Terrace (2-3 in league, 5-6 overall). Angelina Rich recorded 14 kills and Dionna Kirton had four blocks for Jackson (3-2, 5-6). Christine Jensen had 46 assists for Mountlake Terrace.

Lynnwood 3, Meadowdale 0: At Lynnwood, Stephanie Mohoric had 12 assists to pace Lynnwood (1-5 league, 2-9 overall) to a 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 Wesco South victory. Katie Cowan had 20 assists and five aces for Meadowdale (1-4, 5-5). Florence Dalos had 10 kills and Mara Eberth chipped in 11 digs for Lynnwood.

Marysville-Pilchuck 3, Shorewood 2: At Shoreline, Jadelyn Thompson’s 50 digs and April Bobadilla’s 32 assists and five kills led Marysville-Pilchuck to the 25-19, 25-20, 25-27, 20-25, 15-10 non-conference win over Shorewood. Emily Boerger (16 kills) and Anna West (six kills, 11 digs) led the Tomahawks (8-3 overall). Shorewood (2-8) was led by Thea Kempton’s 11 digs, Katie Daper’s 14 kills and Krissi Postor’s 16 digs.

Cedarcrest 3, Sultan 0: At Cedarcrest, Kristen McKinlay had eight kills and Shannon Bailey had six kills to lead Cedarcrest to the Cascade Conference victory, 25-10, 25-8, 25-19. Amber Shields chipped in four aces and 20 assists. Cedarcrest improved to 8-3 in league, 8-3 overall. Sultan fell to 0-11 in league and 0-11 overall.

King’s 3, South Whidbey 0: At Langley, Anna Cesari’s 17 assists, six kills and three blocks led King’s to the 25-9, 5-10, 25-13 Cascade Conference sweep of South Whidbey (4-7 in league and overall). Kailey Trautmann added 13 kills and five aces and Bianca Rowland had five kills for the Knights (11-0).

Archbishop Murphy 3, Coupeville 0: At Coupeville, Archbishop Murphy (9-2 in league and overall) swept Coupeville 25-8, 25-17, 25-13 in the Cascade Conference match. Nikki Griffin led Coupeville (2-9, 2-10) with three kills and seven digs. Erica Frahm had six kills for Archbishop Murphy.

Granite Falls 3, Lakewood 2: At Marysville, Michaela Dudder recorded 21 kills and 13 digs in Granite Falls’ 26-24, 26-24, 19-25, 18-25, 15-8 Cascade Conference win against Lakewood. Shelby Spencer had 31 assists for Granite Falls (6-5 league and overall). Lakewood (4-7, 5-7) was led by Liliya Kibitskaya with 13 kills, eight aces and 11 digs.

Darrington 3, Shoreline Christian 1: At Shoreline, Maggie Wicken had 10 kills and four blocks and Mandy Powell had 27 assists and 15 digs to lead Darrington to the 25-23, 16-25, 25-15, 26-24 Northwest 1A/2B League win over Shoreline Christian (7-2 in league, 8-3 overall). With the win Darrington (8-2, 9-3) clinched a 2B Tri-District playoff berth.

Lummi 3, Grace Academy 0: At Bellingham, Lauren Krumm led Grace Academy (2-7 league, 2-8 overall) with five service aces in the 25-20, 26-24, 25-17 Northwest 1B League loss to Lummi (4-2, 4-3).

North Sound Christian 3, Skykomish 2: At Mountlake Terrace, Victoria Patterson’s six kills and nine digs led North Sound Christian to the 11-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-16, 15-13 Northwest 1B League win over Skykomish (1-6 in league, 1-7 overall). Tori Speck added seven kills and six digs and Maylissa Chung had 14 assists, four kills and seven aces for North Sound Christian (6-1, 7-3).

Highland Christian Prep 3, Cedar Park Christian-Everett 0: At Everett, Highland Christian (5-4 in league, 5-4 overall) defeated Cedar Park Christian 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 in the Northwest 1B League game. Ally Hodges led Cedar Park Christian (1-7, 1-7) with seven aces and Bethany Fuller added seven kills.
