LAKE STEVENS — It wouldn’t be a Lake Stevens boys basketball playoff game without a little drama. Coming off Class 4A District 1 postseason games decided by two and one points, the Vikings took it a step further by going to double overtime before defeating Edmonds-Woodway 74-69 in a loser-out game Tuesday at Lake Stevens High School.

With the win, the Vikings (13-10) advance to a loser-out game against Arlington at 6 p.m. Friday at Jackson High School. E-W’s season ends at 10-13.

The game was a back-and-forth contest for most of the night, and E-W had a chance to win after leading by five with 30 seconds to play in the first overtime. But Lake Stevens’ Chad Paulson made a 3-pointer with 24 seconds to play and Seth Dodge followed with a driving layup with fewer than 10 seconds to play to send it into a second OT.

“When we came back and tied it, we felt we had a lot of momentum going into the second overtime,” Lake Stevens coach Mark Hein said.

That proved to be the case as the Vikings jumped out to a quick lead as Dakota Tomson scored five of his 17 points in the second overtime and Lake Stevens was able to hold off E-W down the stretch.

“We’ve had a lot of close games this year,” Hein said. “Every game has been a battle, especially in the playoffs, and I’m proud of how we’ve handled it.”

Gunnar Eklund had 18 points and 24 rebounds, Dodge had 18 points and nine assists and Paulson scored 14 for Lake Stevens, which now plays an Arlington team that has defeated it twice this season.

Josh Jordan had 22 points, Zack Berg scored 19 and Devin Joseph scored 14 for Edmonds-Woodway.
