SHORELINE — On the way to winning last season’s 3A state championship, there was one thing the Glacier Peak soccer squad failed to accomplish — capturing its own league title.

On Wednesday night, freshman forward Branson Corwin helped the Grizzlies rectified that shortcoming this year by scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over Shorewood (10-4 league, 11-5 overall). The win gave Glacier Peak (13-1, 15-1) 38 points, one better than Wesco 3A rival Shorecrest (13-1, 15-1).

“We’re excited about it,” Glacier Peak head coach Shannon Murray said of the league title. “It’s step one of our ultimate goal, though. There’s still plenty of soccer left and a lot of work to do. The boys are ready for what’s next which is the District 1 tournament.”

Corwin scored in the 35th minute off an assist from Conner Skibeness. His second goal came in the 42nd minute off an assist from Kyle Bjornethun.
