PREP GIRLS ROUNDUP: Kamiak upends defending Wesco South tennis champs

MUKILTEO— With all but one of its players from last season returning, Kamiak went into Thursday’s non-league girls tennis meet with an edge in experience against defending Wesco South champion Edmonds-Woodway.

The Knights won their first three singles matches and the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, defeating the Warriors 5-2 at Kamiak H.S.

The win makes Kamiak 2-0 to start the seaon, and dropped E-W to 1-1 overall.

“All five of our wins were very good matches,” Kamiak head coach Heidi Bloemker said, noting that there were three, three-set matches that went Kamiak’s way. “Both teams played very well … I was very proud of my players, it went back and forth in those three-setters, it was good to see us battle.”

Freshman Zoe Jovanovich — Kamiak’s only new player — paired up with Abby Wegley in the No.1 Doubles for a 6-2, 7-5 win.

“The girls were very exited after the match,” Bloemker said.
