PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Kamiak hands Mountlajke Terrace its first Wesco South loss

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Facing a showdown with a Mountlake Terrace team undefeated in the Wesco South, Kamiak did what comes naturally — win.

Bryce Larson had 20 kills, Ally Bowles had 39 assists and Kamiak defeated Mountlake Terrace 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 Thursday night in a high school volleyball match at Mountlake Terrace High School.

“Winning teams always seem to be really self-confident,” Mountlake Terrace head coach Marietta Snyder said of Kamiak, which improved to 5-0 in the Wesco South and 9-1 overall. “If we can get to that point, Mountlake Terrace has a great chance (the rest of the season).”

Priya Hazari added nine kills for Kamiak.

Terrace (5-5 overall), which fell to 4-1 in league, was led by Cristine Lotz (six kills) and Stephanie McGee (11 digs).

Snyder credited Kamiak’s composure while emphasizing that she felt her team was capable of matching Kamiak’s intensity.

“Our team just got outplayed,” Snyder said. “… Kamiak is really well organized, (well) put together, they don’t get rattled much. … I think my team is capable of playing like that. I think confidence has a lot to do with it.”

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Mariner 0: At Everett, Edmonds-Woodway (3-2 league, 7-3 overall) defeated Mariner (0-5, 0-10) in Wesco South action by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-8. Ashley Kelly-Norling had 10 kills and Haley Lemm had 15 assists for Edmonds-Woodway. Kristen Fowler had 17 assists, Alee Bryan had five kills and three blocks and Anny Bui had six kills for Mariner.

Shorecrest 3, Lynnwood 1: At Lynnwood, Shorecrest won the Wesco South match with scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 27-25. Shorecrest (3-2 league, 5-5 overall) was led by Marina Stoermer with 11 kills, Lauren Schilperoot with seven kills and 11 digs and Casey Axelson who had 29 assists. Jessika Barlow had 12 kills, Apol Thomaier had 18 blocks and six kills and Laycee Hill added 24 assists and nine digs for Lynnwood (0-5 in league, 5-5 overall).

Jackson 3, Glacier Peak 1: At Snohomish, Haley MacDonald had 43 assists and Leigh-Ann Haataja had 17 kills and nine digs as Jackson improved to 4-1 in league, 9-1 overall with the 25-12, 23-25, 25-14, 27-25 Wesco South victory. Malisa Marasigan added 17 digs, Emmy Allen had nine kills and nine digs and Kristin Stoffel contributed seven kills for Jackson. Miranda Farrell had seven kills, Sydney Fullerton had two aces and Taylor Rasmussen added 18 digs for Glacier Peak (0-5, 1-9).

Meadowdale 3, Shorewood 1: At Shoreline, Meadowdale jumped out to an early lead in its 25-22, 19-25, 25-15, 25-16 Wesco South win over Shorewood. Alexa Cannon (12 kills), Megan Nelson (38 assists, 15 digs and three aces) Payton Shrum (24 digs) and Jessica Yi (22 digs) led the attack for Meadowdale (5-0 league, 8-2 overall). Shorewood (1-4, 3-7) was led by the 12 kills of Maddie Welsh, Dana Brindle with 23 digs and nine kills and Carolyn Stransky who added 29 assists and eight digs.

Snohomish 3, Arlington 0: At Arlington, Snohomish (2-2 league, 3-6 overall) defeated Arlington (0-5, 2-9) in the Wesco North match by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-9. Jalene Toy had seven kills and six digs and Karla Nelson had 18 assists and 17 digs for Snohomish. Kenzie Jorgenson had eight kills, Megan Abdo had 15 assists and Amanda Bottini had 10 digs for Arlington.

Archbishop Murphy 3, Lakewood 0: At Marysville, Archbishop Murphy (10-1 league and overall) defeated Lakewood (3-8, 3-8) in the Cascade Conference match by scores of 25-13, 25-8 and 25-14. Savannah Fletcher had six kills, six blocks and five aces; Becca Gotz had seven kills, six aces and 12 digs; Dani Baehm had five aces and 20 assists, and Stefani Bartz had four kills, three blocks and two aces for Archbishop Murphy. Sam Adams had 15 assists, Kaylee Diggs had seven kills and 12 digs and Allie Hernandez had 11 digs for Lakewood.

Coupeville 3, Sultan 0: At Coupeville, freshman Jessica Riddle had 13 aces and seven kills for Coupeville, which won in straight sets 25-9, 25-19, 25-14 to snap a three-game losing streak. Julie Swankie had 26 assists and three aces and Jessica Blanchette had eight kills as Coupeville improved to 6-5 in league, 7-5 overall. Sultan is now 0-11, 0-11.

King’s 3, South Whidbey 0: At Shoreline, Anna Cesari had 26 assists and three aces and Kaley Kenyon had eight kills as King’s (11-0 league, 11-0 overall) pulled out a 25-14, 25-8, 25-20 Cascade Conference victory over South Whidbey (7-4, 7-4).

Granite Falls 3, Cedarcrest 0: At Duvall, Monesa Moore had 13 kills, seven digs and three blocks and Ericka Smith added eight digs to lead Granite Falls to the Cascade Conference win. The Tigers improved their record to 5-6 in league and overall while Cedarcrest’s record fell to 2-9, 2-9.

Shoreline Christian 3, Darrington 1: At Shoreline, Hailey Whales had 11 kills and five blocks and Caresse Baker contributed 15 digs and six kills in Shoreline Christian’s 25-22, 26-28, 27-25, 25-20 victory, vaulting Shoreline past Darrington for second place in Northwest 1A/2B. Shoreline Christian is now 6-2 in league, 8-2 overall, with Darrington falling to 6-3, 8-3. For Shoreline Christian, Laura Kredit had 11 kills, seven blocks and 15 digs and Murie Visser served 17-for-17 with four aces and had 31 assists and five blocks.
