The Seahawks announced Thursday that they have agreed to terms with veteran guard Chester Pitts.
Pitts has started 114 games for the Houston Texans since coming into the league as a second-round pick. Pitts started his career as a left tackle, then moved to guard in 2006. Pitts played for current Seahawks line coach Alex Gibbs in Houston.
Pitts, 31, should give the Seahawks depth on the line and could compete for a starting job, though he is coming off of microfacture knee surgery, and the team seemed settled in its starting line during preseason workouts. The Associated Press reports the contract is for one year and worth $2 million.
To make room on the roster for Pitts, as well as Golden Tate, who agreed to terms yesterday, the Seahawks released DE Robert Henderson and LB Anthony Heygood.
Heygood came to Seattle in a trade for guard Rob Sims, and Heygood was signed to Seattle’s practice squad last season.
