Silvertips NHL draft capsules

A look at four Everett players who could hear their names called during the NHL draft.

The NHL draft takes place Wednesday and Thursday in Nashville. The first round begins at 4 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, while rounds two through seven commence at 8 a.m. Pacific Time on Thursday.

Here’s a capsule look at the Everett Silvertips who could be picked in this year’s draft:

Kaden Hammell

Position: Defenseman

Hometown: Langley, B.C.

Birthdate: March 12, 2005

Height: 6-foot-2

Weight: 185 pounds

2022-23 stats: Eight goals and 18 assists in 67 games

NHL Central Scouting ranking: 95th among North American skaters

Projection: Mid-to-late rounds

Skinny: Acquired at the January trade deadline in the deal that sent Olen Zellweger and Ryan Hofer to Kamloops, Hammell brings the pedigree of being a former first-round WHL prospects draft pick, plus he has the added value of being a right-shot defenseman. His scoring rate increased from 0.28 to 0.52 points per game following the trade.

Austin Roest

Position: Center

Hometown: Coldstream, B.C.

Birthdate: Jan. 22, 2004

Height: 5-foot-10

Weight: 175 pounds

2022-23 stats: 32 goals and 46 assists in 60 games

NHL Central Scouting ranking: 113th among North American skaters

Projection: Mid-to-late rounds

Skinny: Roest was not on the draft radar last year in his first year eligible. However, he did receive an invite to development camp with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche last summer, then followed up with a big breakthrough season in which he more than doubled his scoring output while stepping into the No. 1 center role.

Tim Metzger

Position: Goaltender

Hometown: Zurich, Switzerland

Birthdate: March 17, 2005

Height: 6-foot-6

Weight: 205 pounds

2022-23 stats: 4-5-0-0, 3.35 goals against average, .888 save percentage

NHL Central Scouting ranking: 31st among North American goaltenders

Projection: Bubble selection

Skinny: Metzger didn’t see a whole lot of action as Everett’s back-up netminder last season, making just seven starts, and when he did play he produced mixed results. However, at 6-foot-6 he has the large frame that NHL scouts prefer because it covers more of the net, and that may be enough for a team to take a late flyer.

Eric Jamieson

Position: Defenseman

Hometown: Calgary, Alberta

Birthdate: July 15, 2005

Height: 6-foot-3

Weight: 181 pounds

2022-23 stats: Three goals and 10 assists in 65 games

NHL Central Scouting ranking: Not ranked

Projection: Bubble selection

Skinny: Jamieson experienced the types of ups and downs that are normal for a 17-year-old rookie, and he didn’t crack NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings. However, he flashed signs of his skating and offensive play during the season, and he possesses a projectable frame that could turn him into a physical presence once he fills out.
