Washington State University outfielder Derek Jones, a graduate of Snohomish High School, was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team presented by Collegiate Baseball.
The team was announced Wednesday.
Jones tied the WSU freshman record for home runs with 12. His record-tying blast came at the NCAA Division I Norman Regional and gave WSU the lead for good in a 3-2 victory over Wichita State, the Cougars’ first NCAA postseason win since 1990.
Jones, who hit .223, placed on the all-time WSU freshman list in walks (second, 31), RBI (fourth, 37), games (tied for fifth, 57), total bases (tied for sixth, 91) and slugging percentage (10th, .450).
