Grizzlies announce signing of Iverson to contract

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies have signed former NBA MVP and 10-time All-Star Allen Iverson.

The Grizzlies announced the signing Thursday morning minutes before a news conference introducing the veteran free agent in the lobby of the FedExForum.

General manager Chris Wallace calls Iverson one of the NBA’s all-time great guards. He says it’s a great day for the team, the Grizzlies’ loyal fans and the city of Memphis.

Iverson announced he was heading to Memphis on Wednesday with a statement on his Twitter account.

The move adds the 13-year veteran to a team that has been in a rebuilding mode the past couple seasons.
