The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 23-29. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper.

Last week’s winner

Bode Stevenson and Drew Jansen | Glacier Peak | Boys Tennis

Stevenson and Jansen, both seniors, rallied from down a set to secure a 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 over Jackson’s Andy Stark and Ashton Bergman to win 4A District 1 tournament doubles titles on Oct. 19. They won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Oct. 16-22 by claiming 516 of 1,336 votes.

This week’s nominees

Mary Andelin | Stanwood | Girls Cross Country

Andelin, a sophomore, ran a winning time of 18 minutes, 28.2 seconds on a 5,000-meter course at the Class 3A District 1 championships Oct. 28 at Lakewood High School.

Violet Burchak | Shorecrest | Volleyball

Burchak, a senior, posted 35 assists, seven blocks and two aces in the Scots’ 3-1 win over rival Shorewood on Oct. 23. She also had 25 assists, 14 digs, seven kills and one block in Shorecrest’s 3-0 victory over Mountlake Terrace on Oct. 25.

Otto Erhart | Shorewood | Boys Cross Country

Erhart, a junior, ran a first-place pace of 15 minutes, 38 seconds on a 5,000-meter course at the Class 3A District 1 championships Oct. 28 at Lakewood High School.

Kylie Hendry | Archbishop Murphy | Girls Soccer

Hendry, a junior, scored both goals, including the game-winner the second overtime, as the Wildcats outlasted Lynden 2-1 in a Class 2A District 1 tournament game Oct. 26.

Leyton Martin | Arlington | Football

Martin, a junior, totaled four touchdowns as the Eagles beat Monroe 45-18 in the Wesco 3A championship game Oct. 27. Martin threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns and added a 44-yard TD run.

Cole Truant | Jackson | Football

Truant, a junior, caught two touchdowns passes, ran for a score and returned an interception 60 yards for a TD in the Timberwolves’ 46-39 win over Redmond on Oct. 27. His efforts included 93 receiving yards on six receptions.
