MILL CREEK — Mitch Williamson, the No. 1 singles player for Jackson, cruised against Edmonds-Woodway’s Younghan Kim Monday at Jackson High School, finishing with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Williamson’s coach, David Hutt, was pleased with the way his senior leader came out to start the first set of the match.

“He (Williamson) started off in control, got up 4-1, and won 6-2 in that first set. He stayed comfortably ahead and was ready to play,” said Hutt.

Both players stayed on serve through the second set until Williamson, who is now 4-0 this season, broke Kim’s serve to go up 5-4, then took the set 6-4.

Jackson won the overall match 5-2, sweeping the singles with wins from Peter Cung, Ben Mietzner and Grant Follis.

“All four of our singles guys did well, they were in control and won comfortably. For me, and the kids, it was very exciting and very impressive,” said Hutt.
