Montana Engleking is a Boy Scout, plart of Troop 60 based at St. Pius Church in Mountlake Terrace.

He’s also a student at North Sound Christian School.

Engleking, of Brier, volunteered with Action Ministries, a Christian organization in Mountlake eTerrace that had been doing some missionary work in Uganda, running shelters, orphanages and refugee programs.

“When it was time for my Eagle project, I thought I’d actually do something that changed the world,” said Engleking, 16.

So he talked it over with some people and decided he’d put together hygiene kits and send them to Uganda for the benefit of orphans. The kits contain a Ziplock bag, toothpaste, safety pins, band aids and a bar of soap.

Over the course of four months, Engleking enlisted help from area churches, dentists and a fitness center.

After four months, he and some other scouts assembled 556 kits. Action Ministries plans to include the kits in its next shipment of well drilling equipment in late July.

“I jumped at the chance to piggy-back the hygiene kits with this shipment and save shipping costs,” he said.
