Music performed on traditional Chinese instruments and folk dances steeped in rich Chinese history highlight the next performance in the Shoreline/Lake Forest Park Arts Council’s Arts in Culture series. The Seattle Chinese Orchestra and the HengDa Dancers take to the stage of the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center April 7.

The Seattle Chinese Orchestra is the only traditional Chinese orchestra in the Pacific Northwest. It features more than 40 members in four divisions: bow-stringed, plucked, woodwind and percussion instruments. Under the musical direction of Warren Chang, one of the foremost Er-Hu experts in the United States, the orchastra presents a musical experience rooted in over seven thousand years of Chinese history.

Chinese dance also has a rich history, and the HengDa Dancers will perform Chinese folk dance under the direction of Li HengDa, choreographer, director and former dancer with the Pacific Northwest Ballet.
