Edmonds readies Memorial Day celebration

Members of the Edmonds Cemetery and Columbarium Board cordially invite the public to their 26th Annual Memorial Day Observance from 11 am. to noon, Monday, May 26.

The Edmonds Memorial Cemetery and Columbarium is located at 100th Avenue West and 15th Street Southwest, one block north of the Westgate QFC. Lacey Pierce and Michelle Miles will provide American Sign Language translation. The event takes place or rain or shine.

There is street parking along 100th Avenue West and 15th Avenue. Parking within the cemetery is limited to those bearing handicap-parking permits. Limited seating is available. Guests are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs. Refreshments will be served after the program and visitors are invited to stroll the cemetery grounds.

Enjoy a full day of jazz in downtown Edmonds as the Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers presents their eighth annual Jazz Connection Saturday, May 24.

The event begins at 10 a.m. and runs to 7:30 p.m. at three sites around Edmonds. All midday performances are free.

The final performance will be jazz vocalist Kevin Mahogany with Phil Kelly’s Northwest Prevailing Winds Big Band at Edmonds Center for the Arts. Tickets for the evening performance are available at www.ec4arts.org or by phone at (425) 275-9595; ticket prices are $30 for adults and $15 for students.

VFW Post 8870’s fund drive will be Memorial Day weekend. Group volunteers will be at three markets from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, May 23-24.

The locations are the Westgate QFC, the Safeway at Highway 99 and 238th Street Southwest, and the TOP Foods at 220th Street Southwest and Highway 99.

In addition, the Ladies Auxiliary will be holding their Buddy Poppy fund drive at Central Market in Shoreline.

All funds collected go to assisting needy veterans in the community and Washington Veterans Homes in Orting and Retsil.
