Each year for the past 130 years, the YMCA of Greater Seattle has worked to respond to the needs and challenges of a growing and diverse community.
The issues children and families face may have changed with time, but what has remained the same is the YMCA’s unwavering commitment to building a community where all people, especially the young, are encouraged to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body.
Our Shoreline / South County Family YMCA is a place where people can count on finding a caring environment, positive role models and opportunities to serve the needs of others. With childcare, youth sports, family, and teen program sites in the Shoreline and Edmonds school districts, each year the YMCA provides an array of services to more than 5,000 people — of whom half are female and over 3,000 under age 18.
The YMCA serves the community in many ways, including some you may not be aware of:
• Youth development staff provide programming that teaches leadership skills and builds self confidence for nearly 2,400 teens each year.
• Each summer, 220 youth each day participate in summer programs, learning YMCA values, outdoor living skills and specialty skills.
• Our YMCA operates six childcare sites and one preschool serving 180 children each day; 43 percent of families receive financial aid to participate.
You may have heard that the new Dale Turner Family YMCA is currently under construction. This 52,000-square-foot comprehensive facility opening in fall 2008 will serve as a community hub, a place where the whole family can gather together. This year we invite you to take the unique opportunity to invest in this community resource, while also supporting our vital community programs.
By making a contribution to the YMCA, you join with thousands of others who invest in positive, values-based solutions. Our donors share the belief that regardless of the challenges children, teens or families face, their unique talents and abilities can be strengthened, setting the stage for future success. Your donation to the YMCA stays in our community, with 95 cents of every dollar going to critical services that respond to the needs of young people and their families. Join me in supporting the YMCA through the Partners With Youth Campaign. Together we are building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
