Middle school activity buses will run this fall
Middle school activity buses will run this fall in the Edmonds School District.
The buses were slated to be cut for 2008-09 to save about $45,000 a year.
However, officials restored them this summer after school board members asked them to. The bus runs allow middle school students to participate in after-school clubs and after-school academic help.
The 2008-09 budget was passed by the board Aug. 12 with no other changes from the preliminary budget.
To fill a roughly $3 million dollar hole, several other programs and services, including special education, were cut.
MLTHS musicians tour Europe
Over 30 Mountlake Terrace High School student musicians went to France and Switzerland in July with Band Director Darin Faul.
Jazz Ensemble 1 and Chamber Winds performed in the Luxembourg Garden in Paris and saw highlights of the city. Jazz Ensemble 1 performed at the Vienne Jazz Festival. The whole group attended the Maria Schneider Orchestra and Sonny Rollins concerts in an old Roman amphitheater with views of Vienne and the Rhone River at night.
Jazz Ensemble 1 also performed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival and Chamber Winds at the medieval Chateau de Chillon on Lake Geneva in Switzerland.
The group stopped at a Swiss chocolate factory and got free chocolate samples on its way to Lucerne. The last Chamber Winds performance was at the Music Pavilion on Lake Luzern.
