Meadowdale High comedy show
Several professional comedians will entertain next week at Meadowdale High School. The show starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27 at the Black Box Theater at Meadowdale, 6002 168th St. SW in Lynnwood. There will be a second show the same night if the first one is sold out. Tickets will cost $5 at the door, and the comedy will be age-appropriate.
Some of the comedians include Brad Upton, who won the Las Vegas Comedy Festival and was featured on A&E; Kermit Apio, who is a winner of the Seattle Comedy Competition and featured on Star Search; and Joe Vespaziani, also a winner of the Seattle Comedy Competition.
Proceeds from the evening will go toward purchasing items that help special-needs students at Meadowdale access the community.
Movie night
for families
Join Woodway Elementary for a free school and community event. It will be showing Walt Disney’s “The Emperor’s New Groove” (rated G) at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21 at the school. Students and parents may bring pillows, blankets or sleeping bags to enjoy the film.
Everyone attending will be eligible for door prizes and may purchase 50 cent raffle tickets as well as purchase items from the concession stand. Woodway Elementary is located at 9521 240th St SW. For information, call 425-670-7990.
Reading tutors
are needed
Powerful Partners is looking for volunteers to help students learn to read with more confidence. Reading tutors are needed to work with a child for one to two hours or more each week. The next training session will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 27 and 28 at Edmonds Elementary, 1215 Olympic Ave. Interested persons should attend both sessions. Music workshop offered at MTHS
Mountlake Terrace High School will host The Young Americans Music Outreach Tour Feb. 21 through Feb. 23 during mid-winter break. The Young Americans are a performance choir composed of 40 talented 15- to 22-year-old high school and college students trained at the California Pacific College of the Performing Arts.
The ensemble will teach a three-day workshop at MTHS in vocal technique, dance (including jazz, hip hop and ballet) and performance skills to area students in the fourth- through 12th-grade. This workshop culminates in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Meadowdale High School. The Young Americans will present a two-act show with the workshop students joining them for the second act.
The cost of the workshop is $47. Edmonds School District students may register through their music teacher. Other students may register at www.mthsmusicboosters.org. While it’s best to register early, registrations will also be accepted at MTHS, at 21801 44th Ave. W, 30 minutes before the start of the first day of the workshop. Tickets for the show are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors/students and will be available at the door at Meadowdale High School Theatre, 6002 – 168th SW in Lynnwood.
Career fairs at middle schools
Edmonds School District and Rotary International are sponsoring career fair events for local middle school students. Students will interact with more than 80 professionals from a variety of career fields, with the goal of beginning career exploration and education planning. Fairs will be held on Feb. 11 at Alderwood and College Place middle schools, and March 4 at Meadowdale and Brier Terrace middle schools.
