Grigg scores 2 touchdowns in Sultan victory

LAKEWOOD – Josh Grigg scored on two short runs to help lead Sultan to a 20-12 victory at Lakewood in a North Cascades game Friday night.
The win was the second straight for the Turks, who improved to 2-3 in the conference and 2-4 overall while Lakewood is 2-4.
Grigg started the scoring with a 7-yard run in the first quarter, but Lakewood quickly responded to tie the score at six on a 3-yard run by Jason Rager.
Grigg’s second score came in the third quarter on a 6-yard run that put his team ahead 20-6.
Lakewood cut the lead to eight on Mano Montgomery’s 7-yard run later in the third quarter, and the Cougars managed a drive to the Sultan 7-yard line in the fourth quarter before penalties pushed them back and helped preserve the Sultan victory.
Drew Davison led the Sultan rushing attack with 62 yards on 12 carries. Jordan Gwyther paced Lakewood with 43 yards on four carries, while Leon Dietlin completed three of 11 passes for 104 yards.

Lynden Christian 80, Granite Falls 0: Lynden Christian, ranked No. 2 in the state 2A Associated Press poll, rolled up 41 points in the first quarter and never looked back in a North Cascades victory. Daren Meenderunck, Clint Bosman and Tolland Blair each scored two touchdowns for Lynden Christian, and the Lynx took advantage of eight turnovers by the host Tigers.

King’s 28, South Whidbey 14: Charlie Waldburger carried the ball 12 times for 101 yards and a touchdown and had two catches for 69 yards and a touchdown for King’s in the non-conference game. South Whidbey was led by Andy Willis who had 112 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns.

Kamiak 55, Lynnwood 13: Kamiak bolted to a 41-0 halftime lead behind running back Justin Washington’s three touchdowns. Washington carried the ball seven times for 60 yards. Quarterback John Mack was 5-for-9 for 156 yards. Mack hooked up twice with receiver Whitney Wilson for 113 yards and a touchdown. Casey Anderson intercepted a pass in the end zone and ran 100 yards behind a convoy of blockers to put Kamiak up 55-7 at the end of the third quarter.

Arlington 33, Stanwood 26: Arlington quarterback Kevin McCormack threw three picture-perfect passes for touchdowns to receiver Tyler Burt, totaling 35, 27 and 37 yards. Tyler caught four passes for 122 yards by halftime. McCormack also found Joseph Boitano, who scored the game’s first score on a 6-yard run, for a 27-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Despite leading the Eagles to what seemed like an untouchable 27-0 halftime lead, McCormack had to revive a sluggish team in the fourth quarter after Stanwood scored 20 unanswered points. Leading 27-20, McCormack threw a carbon copy of his first two touchdown passes to Tyler in the first half. Only this time, it came with 6:51 remaining in the game.
