Bothell: Work to close lane of 35th Avenue

Select Homes has been granted permission to close one lane of traffic to install frontage improvements in conjunction with the plat of Cameron Meadows.

The closure will start today and continue through Dec. 19 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The closed lane will be at 35th Avenue Southeast between 188th and 196th Street.

Sister City board seeks member

The city’s mayor and Sister City Commission are seeking a new commissioner. It is a volunteer, three-year term.

A Sister City commissioner is required to attend a 7 p.m. meeting one Monday each month, participate in committee work and join in activities involving Sister City visitors from Hekinan, Japan, throughout the year.

It is not necessary to be a resident of Edmonds, although an interest in the city or Japan is desirable.

Everett

Neighborhood meeting tonight

Everett historian David Dilgard will present a slide presentation called “Winter Nostalgia” at the Port Gardner Neighborhood Association meeting tonight.

The meeting starts at 6:45 p.m. at the Port of Everett offices, 2911 Bond St., with code compliance officer Tamra Gregory telling a success story. Police will be on hand for a discussion and to answer questions.

New officers will be elected, and Wendy McClure will give a council of neighborhoods report.

The evening will end with a potluck dessert.

Lake Stevens

2004 city budget adoption tonight

The City Council will have a third and final reading of ordinances regarding the proposed 2004 budget and land-use amendments.

Other agenda items include awarding a contract for sidewalk improvements, reviewing a jail contract amendment with Marysville, approving a contract allowing the Lake Stevens Junior Athletic Association to use the city’s Soper Hill park property and two appointments to the Arts Commission.

The council will conduct a workshop on vouchers at 6:45 p.m., and the regular council meeting begins at 7 tonight at the Lake Stevens Community-Senior Center, 1808 Main St.

Lynnwood

Book club reads Grisham novel

The Lynnwood Public Library’s book club will discuss “Summons” by John Grisham.

In this legal thriller, Ray Atlee and his brother, Forrest, receive a letter from their father, a reclusive retired judge, instructing them to return home to Clanton, Miss., to discuss his estate.

Council acts on budgets, contracts

The City Council will conduct a public hearing on amendments to the 2003 budget.

Other agenda items include adopting ordinances amending both the 2003 and 2004 budgets, reviewing bids for an archival storage system, authorizing the mayor to renew jail agreements with Chelan, Okanogan and Yakima counties, and discussing the 2004 contracts for Police Chief Robert Carden and Chief Administrative Officer Mary Swenson.

The public meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the second-floor council chambers at City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

Food bank gets

huge donation

The Fred Meyer store in Marysville donated 1,300 pounds of food to the Marysville Community Food Bank, matching the amount raised during a community food drive, held Nov. 8-24.

The donations helped feed more than 700 area families.

Workshop set on natural disasters

The city, in partnership with the Emergency Services Coordinating Agency, is hosting a public workshop on reducing risks from natural hazards.

This is part of the hazard mitigation planning that is required under the federal Disaster Mitigation Act.

Counseling open for flood victims

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved a grant to pay for free counseling for residents affected by flooding in October.

The counseling services are offered to residents in Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties.

Meeting set on draft shore rules

The Tulalip Tribes Planning Commission will conduct a community meeting to discuss draft shoreline regulations.

The meeting will focus on residents of the Spee-bi-dah beach community.

The meeting will be 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdayat the Tulalip Tribes gymnasium at the Tribal Center, 6700 Totem Beach Road. There is ample parking.
