MARYSVILLE – A fire that broke out at a vacant house Saturday night was likely unintentionally started by a squatter, a county fire official said Monday.

The house, in the 6200 block of Grove Street, has been unoccupied and boarded up since fire damaged it about a year ago, deputy county fire marshal Tom Foster said. Investigators found mattresses stacked in a back bedroom, leading investigators to believe someone had been sleeping in the house.

No one was injured in the fire, which gutted the house.
