Jane Hamilton brings her latest novel, “When Madeline was Young,” at 7 p.m. Thursday to Third Place Books for a reading and book signing. “Madeline” follows Hamilton’s usual theme of ordinary people caught up in circumstances beyond their control.

Philippa Gregory will read from and sign from her book, “The Constant Princess,” at 7 p.m. Thursday at University Book Store at Mill Creek. “Princess” is a sweeping “first person” story of Catherine of Aragon, who preceded Anne Boleyn in marriage to Henry VIII.
