Friday from LA

I arrived in Los Angeles about 2 hours ago and it’s warm, about 75 degrees, but overcast and a bit breezy. In other words, weather shouldn’t be a problem this weekend. I’m staying at the team hotel in downtown LA but haven’t seen any players. They are supposed to do a walk-through at the LA Coliseum today. I did see some fans and parents, including Anthony Russo’s mom when I got off the elevator.

There isn’t much room to report. Probably the most significant thing is Tyrone Willingham expects Robert Lewis to play this weekend, which would be a nice boost to the offense. Lewis hasn’t played since the first week of the season because of a broken foot. His return would give the Huskies all of their tight ends back which would allow them to get back to more two-tight-end sets, which is a pretty important part of the team’s offense.

If you get up early enough, the Huskies will be featured on ESPN’s Gameday tomorrow morning. ESPN had a crew at the UW this week.

Here’s a few stories from LA-area papers. The most significant news in them is that USC star receiver Dwayne Jarrett says he is “70 percent healthy” and will suit up, but will only play if necessary.

The LA Times http://www.latimes.com/sports/printedition/la-sp-uscrep6oct06,1,6493053.story?coll=la-headlines-pe-sports writes about the youth that has carried USC, something I wrote about earlier this week as well.

From the LA Daily News is a story http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_4448980 about the young wide receivers who have had to step up for the Trojans this season. And here’s http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_4448979 a notebook from the Daily News that leads with a piece about how close Isaiah Stanback came to being a Trojan.

Also, here is Daily News’ beat writer Scott Wolf’s blog http://www.inside.socal.com/usc/ that always has interesting, up-to-date news.

And here from the Orange County Register http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/sports/college/abox/article_1299506.php is a story about USC’s offensive line, which has been banged up.
