The big game is upon us

So the Memorial Cup championship game has arrived, and once again Medicine Hat and Vancouver will square off in a one-game, winner-takes-all situation, just as they did for the WHL title.

So who’s going to win?

That’s a tough call.

Vancouver is bigger and stronger and will be playing on its home ice. Medicine Hat is faster and I believe, by virtue of finishing first in round-robin play, will be the home team and thus have the last line change. Vancouver is coming of a confidence-building 8-1 crushing of Plymouth in the semifinal, but Medicine Hat has had an extra two days of rest. Both teams have goaltenders playing at the top of their games.

It all makes for tough reading.

But it’s hard to go against history. Medicine Hat prevailed the last time the teams were in this position, so I’ll go with Medicine Hat winning a squeaker in the championship game.

See you in Vancouver.
