MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – A 19-year-old man who allegedly threatened his ex-girlfriend with a gun and then fled in a car trigged a chase by sheriff’s deputies though south Snohomish on Tuesday night that ended near I-5 in Mountlake Terrace.

Deputies tried to prevent the man from getting onto I-5. The suspect was stopped when a sheriff’s deputy pushed the suspect’s car into a guardrail near I-5 and 236th Street in Mountlake Terrace, said Rebecca Hover, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman. The man ran away and was captured nearby, she said.

Although both the suspect’s and the deputy’s cars were damaged, neither the suspect nor the deputy was injured, she said.

The incident began about 7 p.m. near Picnic Point Road and 52nd Avenue W. in unincorporated Lynnwood. The suspect allegedly threatened a woman and pointed a gun at her, Hover said. The woman called 911 for help.

When deputies spotted the suspect’s car and the driver did not stop, the pursuit began, and it lasted about 15 minutes. The man was taken into custody, Hover said.

Everett: 1 person hurt when van hits duplex

One person was injured when a minivan left the road and hit a duplex on 112th Street SW on Tuesday evening, backing into the garage, the front door and the window and then knocking a boy inside the home off a couch.

Deputies believe the driver may have had a medical condition or a mechanical problem with the vehicle, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover.

The car was apparently stuck in reverse and the driver backed into the house, she said.

The boy was transported to Providence Everett Medical Center for treatment of a leg injury.

At least two other people were inside the duplex at the time. They were not injured, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Fire District 1.

The accident occurred about 5:50 p.m. near the intersection of 112th Street SW and Meridian Avenue. A Dodge minivan also sheared off a fire hydrant on the north side of 112th Street before hitting the duplex, Hynes said. Two men were in the minivan. Neither was hurt.

County officials were contacted to check on structural damage to the duplex. Both sides of the building were damaged, she said.

Marysville: Garage fire causes $10,000 damage

An early-morning garage fire Tuesday caused about $10,000 damage to a Marysville home, officials said.

Combustible materials left too close to a hot-water heater are blamed for the blaze, Marysville Fire Marshal Jerry Jacobsen said.

Firefighters were dispatched about 4:35 a.m. to the 6900 block of 77th Drive NE, said Stephanie Price, a Marysville Fire District spokeswoman.

A woman heard noises, saw the fire and grabbed her two children, calling 911 from a cell phone after exiting the home, Price said.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire, she said. No one was hurt.

The fire serves as a reminder to keep combustibles away from heat sources, she said.

Arlington: Search for missing man continues

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for an Arlington man last seen June 21.

Relatives called police Sunday to ask for help, said Rebecca Hover, a sheriff’s spokeswoman. There’s no evidence of foul play.

Anyone who may know where Jack Francis Roys, 85, may have gone is asked to call detectives.

It’s unusual for Roys to leave without telling relatives or neighbors where he’s going, relatives told police. Also missing is Roys’ 2001 silver two-door Chevrolet Impala.

Roys is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. He lives in the 9600 block of 160th Street NE.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
