EDMONDS Lynnwood, winless the last two seasons, snapped a 20-game losing streak, beating Mountlake Terrace 28-7.

The Royals got on the board first on a 1-yard run by Geoff Meinken. The Hawks answered with a rushing touchdown from quarterback Tony Ellersick. Lynnwood took a 14-7 lead just before the half when quarterback Andrew Beatty connected with receiver Scott Hill for a 40-yard touchdown pass.

After a third quarter that Lynnwood heach coach Dorian Manza described as “a defensive battle,” Royals’ linebacker Chris Gordon put Lynnwood up by two touchdowns with a 50-yard interception return to open the fourth quarter. Seven minutes later the Royals got another touchdown from Hill, this time a 1-yard run.

The icing on the cake of Lynnwood’s first win since 2004 came when Maksim Kuzyuberdin and David Harris tackled Ellersick in the endzone with 3:03 to play.

“That sealed the deal for us,” Manza said.

The Royals last win came in their final game of 2004 when they beat South Whidbey, 27-26 in overtime.
