Bothell: Executive session recordings?

The question of whether to record closed-door meetings between city officials may soon be discussed at a Bothell City Council meeting.

State lawmakers may weigh in on the matter in the wake of a controversy involving the Port of Seattle, in which a port executive was given an extra year of pay as part of a severance package. A port commissioner claimed that an informal agreement to pay the extra money was reached during an executive session.

The state Attorney General’s Office has proposed a bill that would require the taping of all executive sessions, with restrictions on how the tapes could be reviewed.

The topic was scheduled to come up at Tuesday’s Bothell City Council meeting, but the discussion has been postponed.
