County info center looking for volunteers

The Snohomish County Tourism Bureau is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to serve as travel counselors at the Everett Visitor Information Center in downtown Everett.

Volunteers work flexible shifts of three to four hours. Knowledge of Everett and the surrounding area is helpful, but not required.

Volunteer teachers needed at center

Stanwood area residents with special talents they would be willing to share are asked to contact the Stanwood Community and Senior Center.

Teachers are needed for morning, afternoon and evening classes for children and adults.

Help for separated parents offered

The Dispute Resolution Center of Volunteers of America offers free help to divorced or separated parents who are having trouble deciding whose home their children will visit during the holidays.

Appointments are offered Dec. 3-14.

Edmonds schools offer volunteer class

A look at volunteer opportunities in the Edmonds School District is offered during a volunteer training session set for 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at Seaview Elementary School, 8426 188th St. SW, Edmonds.

Participants will learn how to how to teach reading basics and how to work one-on-one with a student.

Dance to help Mariner students

Mariner High School offers a chance to dance and help the school’s music department.

Mariner’s jazz band is raising money by throwing a swing dance party set for 6 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in the high school commons, 200 120th St. SW, Everett. You don’t have to know how to dance, organizers said. Basic swing dance steps will be taught by a dance instructor.

Tickets are $6 each at the door. Refreshments will be sold.

Jackson music trip fundraiser Saturday

Jackson High School in Mill Creek is throwing a fundraiser action to benefit music students planning a performance trip to New York City.

The event, “A Night in New York,” is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Jackson High School commons, 1508 136th St. SE, Mill Creek.

Tickets, $10 each, include dessert and entertainment.

Food bank runs toy drive for kids

Sky Valley Food Bank’s Precious Packages toy drive runs through Dec. 14 in Monroe.

New, unwrapped toys, books, art supplies, gloves, hats and scarves, and gift certificates for movie theaters and stores can be dropped off 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays, and 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays at 233 Sky River Parkway, Monroe.
