Bothell: Holiday events this weekend
Meet Santa, eat cookies and view Christmas lights at an event planned for this weekend at Country Village in Bothell.
The event is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Country Village at 23718 Everett-Bothell Highway. There is no charge.
Light displays are expected to include a fiddling pig, a sea serpent, marching ducks and a dragonfly. Shop owners will be providing cookies.

Edmonds: Donate to help children
Help children participate in fun and educational activities by donating a light on the holiday fir tree outside the Frances Anderson Center.
The donation event, called Light a Light, is expected to run through Jan. 2. Donating a light to the fir tree costs $5, with proceeds going to the Edmonds Youth Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship fund benefits children from low-income families.
Each year, Edmonds Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department gives out roughly $2,000 in scholarships.

Chamber collecting shoe donations
New and slightly used shoes can be donated to children of low-income families this month through the Greater Edmonds Chamber of Commerce.
Shoes of all sizes can be dropped off through Dec. 31 at the chamber at 121 Fifth Ave. The chamber is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The chamber is collecting donations for Clothes for Kids, a nonprofit organization that provides fall and spring wardrobes at no charge to families in Snohomish County.
Clothes For Kids, which recently expanded its services, also provides backpacks and school supplies. The charity is in need of more donations to serve an expected 3,000 children and teens during the current school year.

Lynnwood: Music planned at Alderwood
Support the music programs of schools in Snohomish County at a live-music event planned for Alderwood mall.
The event, Rockin’ Shoppin’ Sing-A-Long, is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 at Alderwood, 3000 184th St. SW.
Music groups from several schools are expected to take turns performing at The Village at Alderwood. People can donate money to their favorite bands.
Judges are planning to give prizes to the best group.

Mill Creek: Program for young readers
Learn how to cultivate reading skills for your young children at an event planned for the Mill Creek Library.
The event, Preschool Ready Readers, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the library at 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway. The program is for children ages 3, 4 and 5.
Parents are expected to learn to use fun activities to help children read.

Mountlake Terrace: Tree-lighting Dec. 7
Santa, cookies, bonfires and more are planned for the annual Mountlake Terrace tree-lighting ceremony.
The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave. W. There is no cost for admission.
The city’s tree is actually a frame constructed of more than 900 lights placed on top of a water tower.
People who attend are encouraged to bring a new toy to donate to the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation of Washington, which benefits seriously ill children.
