Arlington takes 3rd at tourney

BELLINGHAM — The Arlington boys grabbed third place in the George Yonlick Wrestle-Rama Tournament Saturday.
They nearly took first.
Arlington lost to eventual first-place finisher Richfield (Vancouver) on criteria in the second round. Arlington and Richfield tied 33-33 in points. Richfield got the nod based on an 8-6 advantage in individual match victories.
It was the second match in a row Richfield won on criteria, before steamrolling Fernadale in the championship meet.
Arlington’s Mark Davis pinned Jake Sehare in 32 seconds in the heavyweight match. Jesse Bosly also pinned his oppenent in the 160-weight division, locking up Tim Horn in 1:28. Nathan Short, hampered by bleeding, lost a close 6-5 decision to Ken Simons at 140 for Arlington.
Arlington defeated Bremerton 56-20 in the first round, and defeated Sultan 56-19 to take third.

Auburn Invitational: At Auburn, the Jackson Timberwolves wrestlers finished seventh in the nine-team invitational.
Jackson’s Jared Mead finished third in the 119-pound weight class. Mead defeated Issaquah’s David Trimmer by technical fall in his first-round match, before dropping his second-round match to Kelso’s Jason Baker, 13-2. Mead rebounded to defeat Brandon Ericksen and Jordan Tanner, each by technical fall, to earn third place.
Teammate Conner Martin finished second in the 135-pound weightclass. Martin defeated Kelso’s Justin Sitch and Auburn-Riverside’s A.J. Schultz to reach the championship match, where he lost a 6-0 decision to Mount Si’s Ryan Makela.
Jackson’s Michael Shapiro finished fourth in the 140-pound weight class. Shapiro beat Mountain View’s Adam Mendez by technical fall before losing his second round match 6-3 to Auburn’s Drew Neal. Shapiro bounced back to defeat Nick Morris by technical fall, before losing an 8-3 decision to Issaquah’s Jacob Borin to finish fourth.
Bellingham Tournament: At Bellingham, the Turks defeated Bellingham 40-39 before dropping matches to Ferndale 45-24, and Arlington 56-19 at the Bellingham Team Tournament.
Sultan took fourth place in the tournament.

Girls wrestling
Emerald Ridge Invitational: At Puyallup, a trio of Timberwolves seniors captured first in their respective weight classes at the Emerald Ridge individual round robin meet.
At 103 pounds, Dani Shaffer won all three matches by pins to earn first place. Tara Miller won a 7-4 decision, then followed with a forfeit and a 1 minute, 15 second pin to take first at 119. Andrea Shore matched Shaffer by pinning all three of her opponents at 145.
