FYI: Do you know of a century milestone?

Published 10:57 pm Thursday, February 7, 2008

The Herald is looking for information about institutions that are turning 100 years old this year or have hit that milestone since 2000.

Tell us about churches, schools, farms, organizations, hospitals or other groups that will mark or have marked 100 years in your community. Call reporter Yoshiaki Nohara at 425-339-3029 or e-mail him at ynohara@heraldnet.com.

Basketball game benefits shelter

A charity basketball event is planned for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Monroe YMCA, 14033 Fryelands Blvd. in Monroe.

The event benefits Cocoon House, a shelter for homeless teens.

Sponsored by Whitfield’s Insurance, the YMCA of Monroe, Ezell’s Chicken and Explosion Basketball, members of the TCBA Fusion Girls Basketball team will shoot two hours of free throws and lay-ups to earn pledge money.

TCBA Fusion Basketball is a program in Snohomish County with members from Lake Stevens, Stanwood, Snohomish and Monroe.

High school mock trial Saturday

Students from Archbishop Murphy, Meadowdale and Marysville-Pilchuck high schools will participate in a North County Mock Trial Jamboree beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Denney Juvenile Justice Center, 2801 10th St. in Everett.

Students compete against each other as attorneys and witnesses in a fictitious criminal trial. The teams are rated by attorneys from the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office who critique the students’ legal, speaking, debating and acting skills.

The event is designed to prepare schools for district qualifying meets later in February. The top teams at district meets qualify for the Washington State Mock Trial Championships in March in Olympia.
