50 years ago (1958)

Members of the Everett Yacht Club watched slides taken by Mr. and Mrs. Rex Bartlett on their recent trip to Alaska and heard Capt. Chase Elwell describe the early days of the Black Prince, the steamboat after which their meeting hall was named. Dr. Ed Chase was commodore of the club.

Olympic View Junior High School instructor Bernie Frederickson conferred with student Glen Thomas on his proposals for changes to the school. Mechanical drawings showed students were putting their imaginations to work designing five-room additions to the school, demonstrating how they would put the money to work with a special finance issue.

25 years ago (1983)

Jennifer Teeter, a Mariner High School senior, and Curt Erickson, a Snohomish High School senior, were named finalists in the 1983 National Merit Scholarship Program and were in the running for one of 1,800 National Merit $1,000 scholarships.

Action by the Marysville City Council on a downtown redevelopment plan, in the making for more than two years, might be less than a month away. The plan included a proposal to develop a mixed-use pedestrian-oriented section in the business district. The area was south of Fourth Street and west of State Avenue.
