MARYSVILLE – Police said they are investigating the death of an elderly Marysville man who was hit by a car while crossing State Avenue early this morning.
The man, believed to be in his late 80s, was hit around 5:20 a.m. in the 9600 block of State Avenue, Marysville police Lt. Jeff Goldman said.
Rescue crews said the man, whose name was not immediately available, was dead when they arrived, Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Stephanie Price said..
The man apparently was not in a crosswalk, she said.
Police don’t know why the man was in the street or where he might have been going, Goldman said. Investigators this morning were trying to locate relatives and determine where the man lived.
There’s no indication of any improper conduct by the driver of the Chevy Malibu that hit the man, Goldman said.
The driver and his wife, who live locally, were headed south on State Avenue when the accident happened, he said.
“Obviously, they’re pretty distraught,” Goldman said. They were cooperating with police.
State Avenue was closed for about four hours this morning while Marysville police and Snohomish County sheriff’s collision detectives collected evidence.
