SEATTLE — The Meadowdale High School girls basketball team is going to return from state with some hardware.

The Mavericks overcame tired legs and defensive lapses to beat Fort Vancouver 58-50 Friday morning in a loser-out game at the Class 3A state tournament at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The victory assured Meadowdale of a top-eight placing.

Senior guard Eryn Jones struggled shooting from the field (6-of-17) but scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help lead the Mavericks.

Meadowdale (23-5), which withstood a 24-point, seven-rebound performance by Fort Vancouver’s Kierra Harrison, plays in the fifth-/eighth-place game at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hec Ed. The Mavs opponent will be either Auburn or Lakeside.

Fort Vancouver ended its season with an 18-9 record.
