EVERETT — The Jackson girls track team will have to wait to find out how good it is.

First the athletes might need to thaw out.

Molly McPherson and Chanel Sam won two events each and ran on a winning relay team to help the Timberwolves earn the victory in a Wesco South meet Thursday at Everertt Memorial Stadium.

“The conditions were pretty cold, so the times definitely weren’t fast,” Jackson girls track coach Steve Till said. “We were happy to have no one injured with it being so cold.”

Jackson finished with 128 points, Lynnwood was second with 38 points and Meadowdale finished third with 19.

Till said not to read too much into the final scores, adding the Timberwolves’ depth was an advantage.

“We’re pleased with the numbers we have … we just don’t know how good we are yet,” he said. “Lynnwood and Meadowdale didn’t have the numbers we did.”

Sam won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and anchored the winning 800 relay team.

“It’s not uncommon for her to win multiple events,” Till said of Sam. “She set several school records (last season) as a freshman … and broke her own long jump record in our last meet (on March 20).”

Joining Sam on the 800 relay team was McPherson, who also won the long and triple jumps for the Timberwolves.

“(McPherson) definitely has a lot of potential,” Till said of the freshman.
