Two early goals help Cedarcrest overcome Murphy

EVERETT — It’s never good to give up a goal in the first 10 minutes. When you give up two goals in the first 10 minutes, to the No. 1 team in the conference then you know your back’s against the wall.
Cedarcrest (9-0 in league, 11-0 overall) made good on two first-half goals and held on to beat Archbishop Murphy 3-1 in the Cascade Conference game played at Archbishop Murphy High School Tuesday evening.
“Against any team, you don’t want to give up an early goal. Against Cedarcrest we kind of put ourselves down. We had a lot of opportunities in the first half to tie it up. We were unable to take advantage of those (opportunities). They have some really solid, quick players. They were able to put in a couple of early ones and that was pretty much it,” Archbishop Murphy head coach Jon Echols said.
Evan Fassler scored four minutes into the game and Seth Gremmert added a goal three minutes later giving the Red Wolves the 2-0 lead.
The Wildcats (5-4, 6-4) would cut Cedarcrest’s lead to 2-1 on a Matt Leen goal on an Elijah Wright assist. It was just the second goal the Cedarcrest defense has allowed all season.
“Our players realized that we gave them a good game. I don’t think anyone was hanging their head after the game,” Echols said of his team.
