HINDSIGHT: A monthly photo column

It rains here. Kind of a lot.

I knew this when I moved from Ohio, but I guess I never thought about how much it would affect my job. There are so many photographic moments, though, that exist because of this ridiculous weather. The cursed blanket of clouds that steals the sunshine also softens the harsh shadows created by the sun, and allows us to take off our sunglasses and open our eyes.

For instance, had it not been for the hideous rains and foreboding clouds, this image of Snohomish High School cross-country runner Bobby McCaughan would not come close to illustrating the drive that exists in so many athletes who refuse to acknowledge the oppressive weather and continue to train, rain or shine.

With that said, summer is almost here, right?
