50 years ago (1958)
Barbara Lee was installed as president of Ttereve Chapter of the National Secretaries Association International at a candlelight ceremony. Other officers installed by Betty Beecroft were Elaine Oke, vice president; Lenore King, secretary, and Lee Johnson, treasurer. The meeting was held in the West Room of the Monte Cristo Hotel. After dinner, Florence Humble spoke on charm and fashions.
Donald Clinton Staiff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond T. Staiff of Snohomish, was notified that he was to receive a grant in the form of a fellowship amounting to $600 for research at the University of Washington’s School of Pharmacy.
25 years ago (1983)
Robert G. Schnieder of Everett, an Army private and a forward area alerting radar operator, was awarded a certificate of achievement at Fort Hood, Texas.
Dave Shogren of Bothell, a GTE employee in Everett, was also a runner who was making his daily five-mile runs pay off for muscular dystrophy. So far during a nationwide “American Love Run,” scheduled through the month of June, he had raised more than $2,000 in pledges for 133 miles logged to date. He said he had excellent support from fellow employees and members of Kiwanis clubs.
