Highway 9 closure at Kackman Road
Highway 9 north of Arlington is scheduled to shut down over the weekend while crews install a culvert beneath the highway at Kackman Creek for culvert work.
The highway is set to close at 252nd Street NE, also known as Kackman Road, from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday. Drivers will be required to detour around the closure using 268th Street NE, Highway 530 and I-5.
The new 6-foot square-box culvert aims to improve fish passage for bull trout and other species.
The work is part of a $20.7 million project to improve about three miles of the highway between Schloman Road and 268th Street NE north of Arlington. On June 30, the state opened a new straight stretch of Highway 9 between Schloman Road and 252nd Street NE, replacing a curvy, shady stretch of the road that presented safety concerns.
