MARYSVILLE — The state plans to close I-5 ramps at Highway 528 in Marysville tonight and Wednesday night, as crews remove old pavement and repave an aging portion of the road, the state Department of Transportation said Monday.

Tonight, crews are set to close the offramp from northbound I-5 to Highway 528, also known as Fourth Street, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The onramp from the highway to southbound I-5 is set to be shut down from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

On Wednesday night, crews plan to close the onramp from Highway 528 to northbound I-5 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The offramp from southbound I-5 to Highway 528 is also set to be shut down from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

During the closures, drivers are advised to take detours using either Highway 529 or 88th Street NE.

The city of Marysville also plans to replace two small, aging water mains during the roadwork.

The $1.4 million work aims to improve half a mile of Highway 528. The portion of the road has been rutted and cracking partly because of high traffic volumes. Marysville city officials estimate that drivers make about 28,000 trips a day on the road. Fourth Street along the stretch has two lanes in each direction and a center left-turn lane.

The project is expected to wrap up by the end of this year, according to the Transportation Department.
