CONCRETE — Two hikers from Massachusetts have been rescued after being stranded for two nights in the North Cascades.

Early today, rescuers hiked helped the pair climb 3 miles down from Spire Point to an elevation where they could be picked up by a helicopter from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.

They were airlifted to Concrete, 50 miles northeast of Everett, where a Navy paramedic and family were waiting. The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office says 33-year-old Matt Edwards and his 27-year-old girlfriend Robin Gibson, from Wendell, Mass., are in fair condition.
