John Huckabee, wildlife veterinarian at PAWS in Lynnwood, listens to the heartbeat of a 9-month-old black bear as Taralyn Meusel, a veterinary student, watches.
The cub fell from a tree in Renton and fractured its jaw. The bear had been shot with a tranquilizer dart as he, a fellow cub and the mother played in a tree in a rural residential area. He will remain at the wildlife clinic for a month while he heals and then will be released. The cub joins three other cubs being cared for at the clinic.
