Prep girls soccer: Unbeaten Shorewood and Jackson play to a scoreless tie

SHORELINE — In a battle of offense versus defense the Shorewood Thunderbirds and Jackson Timberwolves played to a scoreless tie Thursday night in a non-league game at Shoreline Stadium.
“It was a very physical game. Good all around game,” Shorewood’s first-year head coach Nathan Davis said.
Shorewood (3-0-1 in league and overall) held the reigning Wesco South champion Timberwolves scoreless for the first time this season.
Jackson (3-0-1) had entered the game with 15 goals in its first three games.
Shorewood posted its third straight shutout.
“There were a fair amount of shots on goal. We couldn’t capitalize on the goals. The game was pretty much played right in the middle of the field,” Davis said of the defensive battle.
Madison Hollenbeck was in goal for Shorewood.
KC Wilson worked the net for Jackson.
Edmonds-Woodway 1, Mountlake Terrace 0 (2 OT): At Edmonds, Carlin Huegli scored an unassisted goal in the 88th minute and Justine Ponton recorded the shutout at goalkeeper as the Warriors (2-1-1 overall) defeated the Hawks (0-4) in non-league action.
Shorecrest 0, Glacier Peak 0: At Snohomish, Sarah Desautels nearly broke the scoreless tie in the second five-minute overtime period when she got the ball on a breakaway, but Caroline Towles was able to save the would be game-winning goal and keep Shorecrest (3-0-1 overall) out of the loss column in the non-league game. Nicole Giovine tended goal for Glacier Peak (1-2-1).
Meadowdale 2, Kamiak 0: At Mukilteo, Julia Fjortoft scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute and Meadowdale (4-1-0 oveall) won the non-league game over Kamiak (1-2-2). Tanya Zickefoose and Abbie Gustafson were the goalkeepers.
Mariner 3, Lynnwood 3 (2 OT): At Lynnwood, Angelina Monfiletto, Nicky Heying and Emily Carter scored for Mariner (0-3-1 overall) as the Marauders tied the Royals (0-3-1) in the non-league game. Christina Mah scored a goal and added an assist for Lynnwood. Colleen Hill had two assists and Lauren Jacobsen and Amanda Overdick added goals for the Royals.
Lake Stevens 3, Snohomish 1: At Lake Stevens, Annie Thomas scored two goals—including one on an assist from goalkeeper Kaitlin McKenzie—and Kaleen Berg added one goal to lead Lake Stevens (4-0 overall) to the Wesco North victory. Melanie Bjornethun scored the lone goal for the Panthers (1-2).
Cascade 4, Arlington 1: At Everett, Talyn Miller had a pair of goals and Katy Gross and Karlee Rotter added one each as the Bruins (1-2-1 league and overall) defeated the Eagles (2-2) in Wesco North action. Kristen Allen scored the lone goal for Arlington on a penalty kick in the 70th minute.
Stanwood 1, Oak Harbor 0: At Oak Harbor, Reile Vanderpool scored the lone goal in the 39th minute of the second half and Stanwood shutout Oak Harbor in the Wesco North game. Haley Haugstad recorded the shutout for the Spartans (2-1-0 in league and overall). Jordan Boucher was in goal for the Wildcats (0-4), who lost their third straight game by one goal.
Marysville-Pilchuck 1, Everett 1 (2 OT): At Marysville, Laina Weber scored the Tomahawks’ goal in the 28th minute and Valerie Stahl tied the game with a penalty kick in the 75th minute of the Wesco North contest. Marysville-Pilchuck is 0-3-1 in league play and overall. Everett is 2-0-1.
Granite Falls 6, Coupeville 0: At Coupeville, Katie Cashman scored four goals and Granite Falls (1-1 league, 3-1 overall) shut out Coupeville (0-2, 0-3) in the Cascade Conference game. Cascia Stevens and Kaitlan Howell also added goals for the Tigers.
King’s 3, Lakewood 2: At Marysville, Christina McCormick scored King’s first goal on an assist by Hillary Zevenbergen, who scored a goal off an assist by Kendell Thoresen, who added a third goal assisted by Isabel Quinn to lead King’s (2-0 league, 4-0 overall) to the Cascade Conference victory over Lakewood (0-2, 1-3). Maddi Chamberlain and Anna Work each scored a goal for Lakewood. Carolyn Dapper was in goal for King’s.
Archbishop Murphy 11, Sultan 0: At Everett, 10 minutes into the game Archbishop Murphy had already built a 5-0 lead, with two of those goals by Lindsey Bos, who finished the Cascade Conference game with two goals and an assist. Melissa von der Hofen had two goals and both Sam Pettinger and Brittany Allen had a goal and an assist. Caroline Brawner, Maddy Huggins, Kelly Gould, Ally Beck and Sarah Schireman all scored goals for Murphy as well and Erin Ryan had an assist. Alexa Hughes and Sarah Carratt split time in goal for Murphy, which is now 2-0 league, 3-0-1 overall. Sultan is 0-2 league, 0-3 overall.
Cedarcrest 5, South Whidbey 0: At Langley, Erin Kearney scored two goals to help lead Cedarcrest (2-0 league, 3-0-1 overall) to the Cascade Conference victory over South Whidbey (1-1, 1-1). Ashton Griffen, Alix Combs and Clare O’Donell also scored for Cedarcrest and goalkeepers Kori Butterfield and Jordan Cleman kept South Whidbey scoreless.
