Ben Zipp, the Stanwood High School football player who was diagnosed with a serious head injury a week ago, was released from Harborview Medical Center Thursday and returned to his family’s home in Camano Island, Stanwood-Camano School District spokesperson Cathy Britt said Friday.
Zipp was airlifted to Harborview after the Stanwood versus Meadowdale football game was suspended early in the second quarter on Sept. 12.
Zipp, who suffered a subdural hematoma, is expected to recover fully, Britt said.
A junior running back/linebacker, Zipp is expected to return to school Sept. 29, Stanwood High athletic director Tom Wilfong said. Zipp will need periodic medical checkups so doctors can monitor his progress, said Wilfong.
The specific cause of Zipp’s injury remains unknown.
“We still don’t have any type of updates as far as where or how the injury could have occurred,” said Britt.
