MONROE — A smoke alarm helped alert two sisters to a fire that destroyed their mobile home Wednesday.
The fire broke out just after 11:30 p.m. in the 23200 block of Florence Acres Road. The sisters, in their 60s and 70s, escaped before firefighters arrived and were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, said Gary Bontrager, a fire inspector with the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire appears to have started on the porch and spread to the home. The damage was estimated at $165,000, Snohomish County Fire District 3 spokeswoman Audrey Duncan said.
The blaze appears to have been sparked by carelessly discarded cigarettes, Bontrager said. “The owner lost everything,” he added.
