Horse rescue group seeks donations
The Equine Rescue Association, which takes in and cares for orphaned horses, is suffering from the economic downturn, members say.
About 25 volunteers care for approximately 30 horses on land provided by the Marysville School District at 2415 116th St. NE on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. Many of the horses have been abused or abandoned.
The group’s expenses are about $3,500 per month but have been climbing because of the rising cost of feed and veterinary services. The group survives on lesson fees and donations.

Sultan seeks budget ideas
Sultan is running a survey to get ideas about the 2009 budget. The survey is available at City Hall, 319 Main St., or by calling 360-793-2231 or e-mailing city hall@ci.sultan.wa.us.
The city expects about $1.3 million in property, sales and utilities taxes for 2009. Residents can comment on how to spend the money.
In 2007, the city faced a $450,000 shortfall. That was more than 20 percent of the $2.2 million general fund. City officials cut expenses to balance the budget.
