“It has been a good start to the year and it has been fun. The school is not as big as I thought it would be. (Junior varsity) tennis was fun. I wasn’t exactly thinking about joining the team, but my dad put my name in and I’m glad he did. I’m looking forward to playing more.”

Costume ball at Terrace Park School

The City of Mountlake Terrace Dance Program and Kontagious Dance Company are planning to host a community Costume Ball from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Terrace Park School gym, 5409 228th St. SW in Mountlake Terrace

Participants are invited to dress in their finest, fanciest or funniest outfits. During the event, participants can dance, design trick-or-treat bags, decorate pumpkins, play go-fish and experiment with fortune telling.

Performances by Kontagious and MLT Dance Program students will be ongoing throughout the day.

Harvest Festival activities for kids and families are scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. A dance for middle and high school students is planned for 6 to 8 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person or $10 for families of up to four people.

Proceeds will benefit the Mountlake Terrace Dance Company Scholarship Fund.

CSI night at Marysville Middle School

Marysville Middle School is hosting a CSI night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27.

Families are invited to attend and try to solve the mystery of who stole the principal’s laptop. Participants will use investigative strategies and become detectives to solve this mystery.

Additionally, Marysville Middle School is open every Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. for homework help. A computer lab is available and staffed to help students with classwork and to provide access for parents to check student grades online.

Challenge program for elementary students

Now is the time to learn more about the Edmonds School District’s Challenge program, a full-time, self-contained program for gifted or highly capable students at Terrace Park School. The program is for first- through sixth-grade students.

To learn more about the program, parents can attend an informational meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at Terrace Park, 5409 228th St. SW in Mountlake Terrace. Parents or teachers must fill out a referral form in order for the student to be tested, and referral forms are due by Nov. 21. For more information, call 425-431-7157.

Options for gifted high school students

Parents in the Edmonds School District who would like to learn more about high school programs including Advanced Placement, College in the High School, International Baccalaureate, Project Lead the Way and Running Start are invited to an informational meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the former Woodway High School, 23200 100th Ave. W., in Edmonds.

Mukilteo craft fair to raise scholarship money

One of the biggest craft fairs in the south Everett area is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Voyager Middle School commons, 11711 4th Avenue W.

The 16th annual Mukilteo Schools Craft Fair is presented by the school district’s employee social committee and will feature almost 70 vendors selling a variety of handcrafted wares, including holiday items.

Proceeds support a scholarship fund for students at Kamiak, Mariner and ACES high schools along with the Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center. Admission to the event will be a 50-cent donation.
